Transmission Diagnostics & Complete Replacement

A change in how your vehicle shifts needs a closer look before you approve major transmission work. Contact our Spencerport shop to discuss the symptoms, diagnostic availability and the service or repair options for your particular vehicle.

Diagnose before recommending an assembly

A shift complaint can involve engine performance, fluid leaks, electrical control, sensors or an internal transmission fault. We start by understanding the driving complaint and checking applicable information.

Transmission assembly replacement

When testing supports it, Greg's Auto can replace the complete transmission assembly. Available choices and coverage vary by vehicle, supplier and exact unit.

Torque converter replacement when applicable

A torque converter can be replaced as a component where the diagnosis and repair procedure call for it. We do not perform or advertise torque-converter rebuilding or internal converter reconditioning.

What we do not promote

We do not present our shop as a transmission rebuilding facility. Internal gearset rebuilds, custom valve-body reconditioning and torque-converter rebuilding are outside the promoted scope of this page.

Do not start with a replacement assumption.

Tell us whether the issue occurs cold, warm, in a particular gear or under a certain load. Mention noises, leaks, warning messages and any recent work. Previous diagnostic reports are helpful when reviewing what should happen next.

Confirm the service for your transmission.

Automatic, CVT and dual-clutch transmissions have different requirements. Send the vehicle details and service history so we can confirm coverage and discuss the appropriate inspection or maintenance inquiry. We do not advertise a universal fluid flush or one service that fits every transmission.

Know what the shop is proposing.

Contact us before arranging a drop-off for internal transmission work. Repair, replacement or a specialist referral may be discussed depending on the vehicle and findings. In-house rebuilding, programming and every model-specific procedure are not promised on this page.

We will review the available next step with you rather than commit to a major repair from a brief online description.

Before your visit

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Still not sure where to start? Talk with the shop about your vehicle and the concern.

Do you rebuild every transmission in-house?

No such claim is made here. The shop confirms diagnostic, service and repair coverage for the specific vehicle and may discuss a specialist referral.

Will changing fluid solve a shifting problem?

We do not recommend a fluid service as a guaranteed fix. Existing symptoms should be discussed and evaluated before selecting the work.

What information should I send?

The year, make, model, mileage, symptoms, warning messages and previous transmission-service records are useful.
